- Otitis Media (Middle Ear Infection)
- SYMPTOMS of Acute Otitis Media include fever, chills, earache and feeling of
- fullness in the ear. There may also be ear ringing and impaired hearing.
- With Chronic Congestive Otitis Media there will be ringing of the ear, loss
- of hearing will be gradual and dizziness. With Chronic Purulent Otitis Media
- there will be impaired hearing, ringing of the ear, a low-grade fever, pus
- will discharge from the ear and there will be a feeling of fullness in ear.
- CAUSES of AOM may be from organisms spreading from throat and nose to the
- middle ear by way of the eustachian tubes or from an injury of the eardrum.
- Causes of CCOM may be from infections of the eustachian tubes or repeated
- attacks of AOM. CPOM is usually preceded by mastoiditis or AOM.
- TREATMENT. Incision of the eardrum may be required.
- .Acute may require antibiotics, antihistamines & decongestants and heat.
- .CCOM may require the eustachian tube to be inflated and temporary plastic
- tube be inserted in the middle ear.
- .CPOM may include medicated ear drops and antibiotics.
